The Government Accountability Office (GAO) just issued its report to Congress regarding fraud, waste and abuse in Medicare and Medicaid. The findings are mind boggling. According to the report:
“In fiscal year 2016, improper payment estimates for these programs totaled about $95 billion.”
Since Medicare and Medicaid outlays total $1 trillion per year, this means that almost 10% of all Medicare and Medicaid payments are improper. There are billions of dollars in potential whistleblower payouts on the table every year as a result. The Government knows taxpayers are being defrauded and want to act on it. They just need the whistleblowers to point them in the right direction.
